A brief history

SeascapeModeling was founded in 2009 by members of UMaine/GMRI Ecosystem Modeling Lab. They hoped to create an online forum for sharing the results of their work and for discussing issues related to ocean modeling, climate change, right whales, copepods, and crayfish. "SEASCAPE" originally referred to EMLab's "Satellite-based Estimates and Analysis of Stage-resolved Copepod Abundance in Pelagic Ecosystems", but we liked the name so much, we decided to apply it more broadly.

The Ecosystem Modeling Lab was established by the University of Maine's School of Marine Sciences in cooperation with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland, ME. Most members of the EMLab have appointments through UMaine and have positions on the research team at GMRI.
